Our partners at Gender Spectrum hosted a live broadcast about gender and family support to help parents and family members better understand when a loved one says that they are genderqueer, agender, bigender, non-binary, or other gender identities. Whether you want to talk about gender with your own family or just want to learn more about how to be a better support system to a friend, check out the video below for lots of tips to help you out.
Here are some of our favorite highlights:
“We don’t live in a world where non-binary identities are really validated that much, which makes it even more important for parents and caregivers and families to start to see their young people as they feel on the inside.”
“You’re a person and you’re a person who can do it all, and you’re not going to be restricted by gender roles or gender norms…what an uplifting message that we as parents can give.”
"I don’t think I’m ever going to decide about my gender identity. I think it’s something I’m going to always keep exploring and something I’m checking in with myself about."
