Impact Highlight: Meet Precious

Happy Hippie Support Services in Action
Meet Precious, a 1-year-old Chihuahua mix who was found on the streets as a puppy by one of the young people at My Friend's Place.
Precious's owner is a 21-year-old and, like so many trauma survivors, her relationship with Precious helps her cope with her diagnoses of Major Depression and PTSD, as caring for an animal helps trauma survivors re-establish a sense of personal security and trust in others. Research shows that as many as 25% of homeless youth have pets, and pet ownership corresponds with better emotional health outcomes. Despite the supportive benefits, pet ownership often can be a barrier to housing options.
But here's the amazing news: Precious's owner just got into permanent supportive housing, and thanks to your donations, Precious was spayed, registered and approved as a service animal so Precious can live with her owner in their new home!

“Growing up in group homes and on the streets, I don’t think I ever slept a single night alone, but Precious is the best company.” – Precious’ owner
Thank you, Happy Hippies, for helping to change lives!
